REQUIREMENTS FOR CULINARY SCHOOL
The International Culinary Center has policies regarding student age, education and language for admission into our globally recognized professional programs. Before enrolling, read below to be sure you meet our requirements for going to culinary school.
PROOF OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION OR EQUIVALENT
A high school diploma or GED is the basis of admission into ICC’s culinary programs. All applicants are required to submit proof of high school graduation or the equivalent in the form of a high school or post-secondary school diploma, GED, official transcript with graduation date, or an official college transcript.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Most international students enrolling in our professional programs will need a student visa to enter the United States. ICC’s International Advisors will assist you with the visa application process and any additional requirements needed. Please view our International Student Guide for more information.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
If English is not the student’s first language, he or she must demonstrate English language proficiency by taking the test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL). Scores should be submitted directly to ICC through the Educational Testing Service, and we require international students to have a score of 61 or higher. For students not yet in a position to pass the TOEFL, ICC has partnered with three ESL programs to help our students achieve the required level of English proficiency.
THE NEW SCHOOL
The ESL + Food Certificate program, designed with The New School, allows students to attend ICC after receiving a high-quality English language education — including a class on “The Language of the Kitchen.” Learn more about ICC’s ESL + Food Certificate program.
KAPLAN INTERNATIONAL SOHO
Located just a short walk down Broadway from ICC, students who successfully complete the Kaplan Higher Intermediate level can begin the registration process for ICC’s programs in lieu of a TOEFL exam. Learn more about the ESL Programs at Kaplan.
GOLDEN GATE LANGUAGE SCHOOL
For the ICC California campus, GGLS offers the Guaranteed Transfer Program without TOEFL and the Conditional College Acceptance Program. Successful completion of their level 12 Intensive English Program may serve as proof of English proficiency. Click here to learn more.
