Although the Napa Valley is now one of the most notable winemaking regions in North America, just 70 years ago, it was a sleepy farmland known more for its mines and mineral springs than for its merlots. Thanks to a handful of pioneering winemakers who recognized the area’s uniquely perfect combination of climate and geography, Napa has transformed into a viticultural hotbed. For history buffs, avid travelers, and wine lovers alike, this course is an intimate look at what makes Napa Valley so special. The evening will start with a short film featuring some of Napa Valley’s revolutionary winemakers, including Brother Timothy from Christian Brothers Winery and the legendary Robert Mondavi, followed by an in-depth discussion of Napa’s terroir and a comprehensive tasting of bottles from across the region. After sipping on a sampling of varietals that will take you beyond the more familiar Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, you’ll leave this course with an intimate knowledge of Napa, from A to Zinfandel.
Students must be at least 21 years of age to enroll in Wines of Napa Valley.
