4 hours of tasting, discussion, and hands-on instruction ENROLL NOW From smooth, crisp lagers to a spectrum of bitter, malty, and hearty ales, the world of beer offers an astonishing variety of flavors and characteristics. Like wine, the right brew can enhance and complement a number of dishes. But many cooks overlook beer when planning their menus in favor of more “sophisticated” beverage pairings.
Join Garrett Oliver, Brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery and author of the award-winning book The Brewmaster’s Table, for an evening of cooking and pairing great food with flavorful beers. Considered the country’s foremost authority on traditional beer, and deemed “the poet laureate of beer" by Mario Batali, Garrett will lead you through an interactive tasting of a range of craft brews, identifying key flavor components and exploring how they work with ingredients. Then, roll up your sleeves for some hands-on cooking as the Brewmaster demonstrates a selection of his favorite dishes, including fettuccine with lobster, chorizo, and peas paired with Brooklyn Local 1; omelette of sautéed Granny Smith apples and Chèvre cheese with Brooklyner Weisse; and spicy curried crab cake with Brooklyn East India Pale Ale. After class, you’ll have a new appreciation for beer and its affinity with good food.
Students must be at least 21 years of age to enroll in Cooking with Beer.
