To make it easier for students enrolled in non-career programs to find housing in New York City, we've compiled this information to get you started. Based on your needs, alternative housing could include anything from a bed and breakfast to a short-term lease.

Please note that there are hundreds of housing options in the New York City metro area, and The International Culinary Center is not responsible for the conditions or the prices of the establishments listed. Since scams do exist on some real estate sites, even those that include subscription fees, we advise you to exercise common-sense caution when exploring housing options.

To protect yourself:

• Consider using reputable companies as agents. Though this usually involves a fee, it is often a good investment if you cannot travel to New York City.

• If you‘re unable to visit the property before you commit, ask someone you know to view the property for you.

• Never send money based solely on email communications.

• Wire money only via bank-to-bank transfer. Do not use money transfer services, such as Western Union or Moneygram, and never send money to a location outside of the U.S.

• Get a signed rental agreement and a copy of the landlord’s ID.
